Yen's Garden Air-layered Thai Sweet Tamarind Tree

The Sweet Tamarind is originally from Thailand which coveted for its sweet flavor and it is used for desserts, be dried up in the sun and ground into a delicious spice. Thai sweet tamarind tastes rich and sugary with a gentle, fruity tang. It features a sticky, dense texture much like a dried date or prune, carrying deep molasses notes paired with a very mild, pleasant tartness rather than a sharp sour bite. Unlike sour tamarind used for cooking, sweet Thai varieties are eaten raw straight out of the shell. Thai sweet tamarind grows best in USDA zone 9 through 11.  It thrives in tropical and subtropical regions that provide full sun and warm temperatures year-round. The tree needs full sun with 6 to 8 hours of direct light every day. It prefers loose, sandy, or loamy soil that drains well. Protect trees from freezing temperatures, or grow them in large pots to move indoors during winter.  Water daily when the tree is small. Water every other day for medium tree. Fertilizer: every 3 months with 10-10-10 or 12-8-6. Don't add fertilizer when first planting it in the ground or transplanting to the bigger pots.
