Description
The Maria Black avocado (Maria B) is a compact Mexican avocado variety known for rich, buttery taste with high oil content, similar to a Hass avocado. The fruits are medium to large size (1 to 2 lbs / 20–30 oz) turning a deep purplish-black when ripe.
Maria Black is one of the rare compact dwarf to semi-dwarf avocado trees, which reaching 10 to 15 feet tall at maturity (manageable with pruning).
Harvest time: September through January.
Cold Hardiness: Tolerant down to 28–30°F (USDA Zones 9–11).
